Today's game was a win-win situation for Ernest Tomascik of Fairhaven, Mass. Not only was he on hand to see the Patriots defeat the Dolphins and clinch the division title, but he also left Gillette Stadium with a huge check thanks to the Massachusetts State Lottery.
Ernest was on the field at halftime to take part in the Lottery's Million Dollar Drive promotion. The game was simple: he had to choose from 24 giant scratch tickets, each containing a prize. In true Patriots fan fashion, Ernest went with lucky number 12. As he opened the envelope attached to the ticket, he found the seven-digit number inside. The stadium immediately erupted into cheers for the $1 million winner.
Ernest was randomly selected from more than 965,000 entries in the Lottery's Second Chance Drawing contest, which allows people to send in non-winning $5 Patriots scratch tickets for another opportunity to play in a really big way. Ernest was guaranteed to go home with at least $100,000 but had a couple chances to score the grand prize, with $1 million hidden behind two of the scratch tickets. He is the first million dollar winner in any of the Lottery's Second Chance drawings.
Needless to say, it was a good day at Gillette Stadium!
