The Patriots made waves with their decision to remain on the West Coast recently in between games at San Francisco and San Diego. While the practices in California ultimately went off without a hitch, the most noteworthy item to emerge concerned Laurence Maroney and "the issues" he claimed he was dealing with.
Less than two weeks later, it appears as if those issues will lead to a premature end to the running back's season. According to a team source, Maroney will be placed on injured reserve, ending his season after just three games. The Boston Globe also reported the news, citing an NFL source.
The specific reason for Maroney being placed on IR is his recent shoulder injury. He missed two games (Miami and San Diego) with the injury but his rambling meeting with the media in San Jose, Calif., two weeks ago alluded to a mysterious "issue" that was holding him back. Whether it was mental or physical – or perhaps both – Maroney's season is over after just 28 carries and 93 yards.
