News Blitz 1/30: Gilmore DPOY case, potential Brady contract speculation

All the Patriots news you need in one convenient place!

Jeff Howe of The Athletic lays out Stephon Gilmore's candidacy for Defensive Player of the Year. The award will be announced on Saturday night, Gilmore would appear to be the front runner coming off an outstanding season. Richard Sherman endorsed Gilmore at Tuesday's media session via NESN.

Pats Pulpit has Marshall Newhouse checking in from the Super Bowl and sharing what he learned in his year with Dante Scarnecchia. Meanwhile Greg Bedard has Michael Bennett making the radio row rounds and making a case for Lawrence Guy deserving a contract extension.

Scott Pioli shares a Tom Brady contract negotiation memory with NBC Sports Boston, one that had Brady looking at a $10 million-per-year deal. Anyone want to convince Brady to take a similar deal now, over a decade later?

Tom E. Curran also speaks with Pioli along with some of the Chiefs players, coaches and managers, wondering if the Patriots are on their last legs. The resounding answer - until it's no longer Bill and Tom, the Pats will still be in the mix.

Over the Cap projects that the Patriots will pick up two third-round picks and two sixth-round picks when the NFL hands out the compensatory selections. Those will be for Trey Flowers, Trent Brown, Malcom Brown and Cordarrelle Patterson, all who walked last year in free agent to sizable deals.

Former NFL sports agent Joel Corry takes an in-depth look at how the Brady contract situation might work out. Admittedly it's a really complicated situation.
