News Blitz 4/2: Brady fooling around

April is just underway and soon, too, will be the Patriots offseason program.

In less than two weeks, Bill Belichick's defending champions will kick off workouts in the offseason program, another official step toward the 2019 season.

The Boston Globe Patriots notebook looks at the April 15 date of workouts at Gillette Stadium, as well as the team's Monday signing of developmental offensive lineman Cedrick Lang. The Globe also has a profile of Tom Brady's niece, Maya, a star softball player headed to UCLA who might just be the best athlete in the accomplished family. The Globe also notes that Tom Brady kicked off his Twitter account with an April Fool's joke.

The Boston Herald also writes about Lang, who's taken a rather unique path to his current job in New England. The Herald passes along the Associated Press' reaction to Brady's first tweet, "Don't. Even. Joke." notes Brady's "fake retirement."

NBC Sports Boston offers up tight end options that might suit the Patriots on each of the three days of the NFL Draft, although the information comes in the form of an annoying slideshow. NBC Sports Boston notes Julian Edelman's response to Brady's retirement joke tweet. says the Patriots should not draft or trade for a quarterback this offseason. "Forget the succession plan. Focus on success right now." passes along an NFL Network report that the Patriots will host Mississippi State safety Johnathan Abram for one of their 30 pre-draft visits at Gillette.
