The NFL will kick off Thursday night while the Patriots will have to wait another four days before the Houston Texans come to town to open their new season.

NBC Sports Boston has Devin McCourty explaining how the opener is all about dealing with the unknown. WEEI.com says there's a lot of uncertainty surrounding the Patriots as the season approaches.

Texans coach and former Patriots offensive coordinator says his former quarterback, Tom Brady, looks better than ever. ESPN.com says Tom Brady's work with his “broken play coach” has helped him immensely.

Rob Gronkowski spoke to the media on Tuesday and the Boston Globe detected a slight hint of disappointment over his new contract incentives. The Boston Herald says Gronk is “super satisfied” with his new deal. Trent Brown missed his second straight practice but the absences were excused and he is expected to play Sunday.

The Boston Sports Journal says James White knows he will be counted on heavily to be a big part of the offense this season.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Globe says the key to the Patriots success is versatility. Stephon Gilmore says he welcomes the challenge of covering Texans wideout DeAndre Hopkins.

The Patriots released Amara Darboh, one of the two wide receivers they claimed off waivers on Sunday, with an injury designation.

MassLive.com ranks the 13 opposing quarterbacks the Patriots will face this season, as well as the opponents.
