The Patriots scintillating 43-40 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday night still has the town buzzing. The offense was almost perfect throughout, and it needed to be in order to hold off young Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.

ESPN.com writes about Tom Brady’s continued assault on the record books. Josh Gordon didn’t take long to ascend near the top of the Patriots wide receiver depth chart.

The Boston Globe looks at the Patriots defense on Sunday and somehow manages to credit the group for containing the Chiefs for a half. Conversely, another Globe piece says the effort was not one the defense should be proud of. Chris Hogan added some special teams work to his plate on Sunday night. Brady understands that Rob Gronkowski is a pretty big deal. MassLive.com also gives props to Gronkowski late heroics.

It’s a mixed bag in the Boston Herald’s report card. It was a different story in the Providence Journal’s version despite the fact that Kansas City put 40 points on the board. NBC Sports Boston saw things more like the Herald … and the rest of us. The Athletic’s film review leaves plenty to work on for the defense. The overall analysis highlights both a thrilling victory and plenty of concerns for the Patriots moving forward.

NBC Sports Boston recaps Sunday night’s events and says it was refreshing that the officials stayed out of the way. The Patriots were not called for a single accepted penalty. Give Josh McDaniels credit for pulling the right levers all night.

The Patriots will travel to Chicago to take on the Bears and the Chicago Tribune has all eyes on the balky ankle of Khalil Mack. Coach Matt Nagy is taking some heat in the Windy City over Sunday’s disappointing overtime loss in Chicago but it’s kicker Cody Parkey who should be hearing the criticism.
