FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots announced that they have claimed DL Albert Huggins off waivers from Philadelphia. To make room for him on the 53-man roster, the Patriots have released K Kai Forbath.
Huggins, 22 originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with the Houston Texans out of Clemson on May 10, 2019. The 6-foot-3, 305-pounder was released by the Texans on Aug. 31, and signed to the Texans practice squad on Sept. 2. Huggins was then signed by Philadelphia to the 53-man roster from Houston's practice squad on Oct. 21. He appeared in four games for the Eagles as a reserve and made three tackles. Huggins was released by Philadelphia on Nov. 30.
Forbath, 32, was signed by New England on Nov. 29. The 5-foot-11, 197-pounder converted one field goal and one-of-two extra-points attempts at Houston on Sunday. Forbath originally signed with the Dallas Cowboys as a rookie free agent out of UCLA on Aug. 2, 2011. He spent his rookie season on injured reserve and has also spent time with the Washington Redskins (2012-15), New Orleans Saints (2015), Minnesota Vikings (2016-17) and Jacksonville Jaguars. Forbath has played 78 regular-season games in his career and made 121-of-141 (85.8%) field goals and converted 173-of-185 (93.5%) extra points for 536 career points. Forbath has also appeared in three playoff games (one with Washington in 2012 and two in 2017 with Minnesota) and made 3-of-4 field goals (75.0%) and all five extra points he has attempted in the postseason. Most recently, Forbath played in the final three games of the 2018 regular season for Jacksonville and converted 4-of-5 (80.0%) field-goal attempts and all three extra points.
