Patriots Postgame Quotes

New England Patriots players comment on their 41-7 win over the Denver Broncos at Gillette Stadium on Mnday, October 20, 2008.

James Sanders, Safety
(On the energy the Patriots played with tonight)
"I liked the emotion we played with tonight. We were celebrating with our teammates and flying around making plays on both sides of the ball and that's what we need to do as a team to be successful. "

*(On the defense causing turnovers)
*"We know last week we didn't leave our best football on the field and we wanted to come out this week and make a statement and fly around and make plays and cause turnovers. We wanted to put our offense in a position to make plays and that's what we did tonight."

*(On how the secondary was motivated by the loss against the San Diego Chargers)
*"We went out this past week and probably had our best week of practice all year. It showed tonight. As a secondary, we took last week personally. We went out there and didn't play very well. Tonight we came out and executed. You saw the outcome."

*(On what safety Rodney Harrison means to the team)
*"He [Rodney Harrison] means a lot. He is a future Hall of Famer. He is one of the best to play this game. He has taught me a lot since I have been in New England. He means a lot to me as a football player and a friend. I don't know his status right now. If he misses time, we will miss him. I am going to go to the training room and see how he is doing and let him know I am here for him."

*(On when he realized they had secured victory in tonight's game)
*"With a team [Denver Broncos] like that, you never really sense that until zeros are on the clock because they are a very explosive team. They are very capable of putting up points in a hurry. We had to go out there and play hard for 60 miinutes. That is what we did tonight."

Tedy Bruschi, Linebacker(On energy from the crowd)
"Its good to be home. It's always nice to be here in front of our fans because there was a lot of energy out there tonight. In the beginning of the game we came out energetic and with a lot of emotion and wanted to come out and have some fun."

*(On what he said to Rodney Harrison after he was injured on the field)
*"I'm going to keep that to myself if you don't mind. Rodney is one of my favorite teammates of all time and I just went out there to check on him. What I told him and he told me was something between us."

Adalius Thomas, Linebacker*(On the predictions for this game)
*"That's why you play the game. We just came out here to play our game. We didn't come out here to do anything else. We wanted to come out and start fast. We knew after last week that they had a talented offense. We knew they were going to throw the ball deep. We picked the ball off and made the plays we needed to make. "

(On the media speculation)
"At the end of the day it's all how you prepare and I think it showed it out there tonight."

*(On Coach Belichick's thoughts about a good week of practice)
*"I think we are starting to have a lot more fun, even in the game. Everybody is on the same page, the special teams in playing well. It was a good overall team performance today."

BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Running Back
(On his performance tonight)
"I just try to do my job. The offensive line, Heath [Evans] and the tight ends Dave [Thomas] and Ben [Watson] made it a lot easier for me. I just wanted to go out there and do my job which is run through the holes they were making."

*(On how he prepared heading into tonight game's)
*"I prepare hard every day. I take it one day at a time and prepare to the best of my ability. The guys, Heath [Evans] Kevin [Faulk] and Sammy [Morris], helped me out all week with little tips and things like that. It helped out."

(On how fun it was to score his first NFL touchdown)
"I was just happy to go out there and contribute. I am happy for the team to get a win like this. I was happy to be able to do my part."

Kevin Faulk, Running Back
*(On if the offense thought it had an advantage running the ball coming into the game)
*"I think that's what you want to do every game. You want to be able to run the ball, then come back and throw the ball. But at the same time, you just want to win games. Whatever's working for you, that's what you want to do."

(On the performance of Sammy Morris)
"His actions speak for themselves. We all knew Sammy could play and he was just given an opportunity and he took it."

*(On what he thought he could accomplish running to the left side)
*"Whatever works, we're going to do it to win the game. Doesn't matter."

Logan Mankins, Guard
*(On playing as a second-place team in the AFC East)
*"Yeah, it's the first time since I've been here. But hey, we're a game back and there are still 10 games left."

*(On if the first five games were not as fun for the team as Monday night's win)
*"At times. I don't think we were celebrating as much after big plays. We were making a big play and that was just expected that that should happen. I think we can't expect anything. You have to work really hard to get everything. So we need to celebrate more on that stuff."

(On the running game )
"A lot of the credit goes to the running backs. Sammy [Morris] runs as good as anyone and as hard as anyone. He hits the holes. Ben[Jarvus Green-Ellis] gave us a nice spark tonight. We got to see what he can do and we liked what we saw."

*(On the screen pass touchdown to Randy Moss)
*"That was a big play. We got the look we wanted, everyone got a hat-on-hat, and Randy's fast enough, no one's going to catch up to him."

Brandon Meriweather, Defensive Back
*(On whether Rodney Harrison's injury took away from the win)
*"The injury to Hot Rod [Harrison] is part of playing the game. As a team, I thought it was a great win. It's just unfortunate for anybody to be injured. "

(On Denver's turnovers)
"It was just one of those nights. When you hustle and get to the ball good things happen. "

*(On whether the defense's performance built confidence)
*"As far as a confidence builder, yes, it was. I think, in putting everything together, we still have a lot to work on. We have a ton to work on. It's still not perfect. We're just trying to get better."

Heath Evans, Fullback
*(On preparation for this week's game)
*"It was a great week of practice. It was an emotional week of practice. There was a fast tempo. Sometimes those are hard to come by at time in this league. It's a long year, and after losing like that last week, and the West Coast trip that we had, we had every excuse to come here and be held under this week. It was the exact opposite."

*(On the success of the running game)
*"I think we prepare in a way that we expect to win. We prepare in such a way that these plays that we work on three, four, five, six times over the course of the week; you want to execute them perfectly. So when you see Sammy [Morris] and the offensive line do what they did in the first half, it gets you jacked up. "

Ellis Hobbs III, Cornerback
*(On the team playing loose)
*"In the four years that I've been here, I've never heard Bill [Belichick] say, 'Go out there, cut it loose and have some fun out there.' With some guys, it's always the next play; don't' worry about the last one. That's the mode I like playing in. Even if we give up a play or anything, we still have a plan out there. We were jumping around, slapping each other, this and that. That's a great feeling out there. That's a great look out there. We had fun tonight."

*(On whether this was a statement game for the defense)
*"You can call it that, but we need to have a statement game every week. We don't want to look at this as one game that we had circled."

(On the turnovers)
"Like I said, when you practice well, grabbing the ball in practice turns into game time reality. I think everybody got their hands on the ball tonight. Myself, the back end, the safeties, up on the D-line, the linebackers, it all comes from a good practice habit. "

Wes Welker, Wide Receiver*(On his first touchdown of the season)
*"It feels good to break the ice finally. It's been a while and it felt good to get into the end zone. Now that the ice is broken, hopefully we can roll on from here."

*(On the running game helping the passing game)
*"The offensive line did a great job of moving guys. Sammy and the backs - Kevin [Faulk] and BenJarvus [Green-Ellis] came through and got downhill and made some good runs, and that always helps the plays and helps the offense really go."
