Patriots release P Reggie Hodges from practice squad

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots have released punter Reggie Hodges from their practice squad.

Hodges, 26, was signed to the practice squad on Sept. 4, 2008 and has played in eight career games with the St. Louis Rams (2005) and the Philadelphia Eagles (2005). The 6-foot, 226-pound punter has recorded 41 career punts for 1,535 yards (37.4 avg.), two touchbacks and nine punts inside the 20-yard line. He was originally sleeved by the Rams in the sixth round (210th overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft out of Ball State. As a rookie, Hodges played in five games with the Rams before being released on Oct. 10, 2005. He was signed by the Eagles on Nov. 2, 2005 and played in three games before being released on Nov. 22, 2005. He spent time with the Eagles and Colts during the 2006 preseason, but was released by Indianapolis prior to the regular season. In 2007, he spent the preseason with the Colts before being released prior to the regular season. This season, he spent training camp with the Seattle Seahawks before being released on Aug. 31, 2008.
