Patriots set for preseason opener

New England held a final walk-through to go over final preparations heading into the first preseason game Friday night at home against the New York Giants.

Training camp was closed to the public and media. Kickoff Friday night will be at 8 p.m. EDT. The Patriots won last year's preseason opener, a 20-0 triumph over the San Francisco 49ers in the Hall of Fame Game. A win over the Giants would mark the first back-to-back victories in preseason openers since New England won six consecutive openers from 1976-81.

Preseason games have generally been a success for Belichick teams. Last preseason, the Patriots were 3-2, and in six preseasons as an NFL head coach, Belichick has never had a finished below .500 in the preseason.

All-time the Patriots are 4-7 in preseason games against the Giants. The last time the teams met during the exhibition season was 1991 when New England won, 24-6.
