FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots signed veteran free agent wide receiver Eddie Berlin today. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Berlin, who will wear number 81 for New England, was on the field for this afternoon's training camp practice session.
Berlin, 28, has played in 62 games with one start in five NFL seasons with the Tennessee Titans (2001-04) and Chicago Bears (2005). The 5-foot-11-inch, 195-pound wide receiver was originally drafted by Tennessee in the fifth round of the 2001 NFL Draft (159th overall). The Northern Iowa product had his most statistically productive season in 2004, when he played in all 16 games with one start and caught 20 passes for 278 yards and a touchdown for the Titans. He was signed by the Chicago Bears as an unrestricted free agent on March 23, 2005 and played in five games for Chicago last season. He was released by the Bears on March 17, 2006. Berlin's career statistics include 26 receptions for 379 yards and two touchdowns, 30 kickoff returns for 586 yards, and seven punt returns for 26 yards.
