FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots signed wide receiver Jamin Elliott to the practice squad today. The team also announced that rookie offensive lineman Gene Mruczkowski was placed on the Reserve/Injured list.
Elliott, 24, returns to the practice squad for the second time this season and played for New England as part of the active roster against Dallas on Nov. 16, 2003. The second-year wide receiver from Delaware was signed to the practice squad on Sept. 17 before being signed to the active roster on Nov. 15. He was released from the active roster on Nov. 22. Elliott spent his rookie season in 2002 with the Chicago Bears, participating in the final two games of the season on special teams. The Portsmouth, Va. native was listed among the day-of-game inactives for seven weeks and was on the Bears' practice squad for six weeks during the season. The 5-foot-11-inch, 195-pound wideout was originally drafted by the Bears in the sixth round (203rd overall) of the 2002 NFL draft. Elliott was with the Bears for their 2003 training camp, but was released on Aug. 25, 2003, prior to the Bears' final preseason game against the Patriots.
