By virtue of a 38-6 victory over Carolina, the New England Patriots are the 2001 AFC Eastern Division champions.
The Patriots closed out the season with an 11-5 record to clinch at least the No. 3 seed in the conference for the postseason. All eyes now are on the New York Jets, who are playing in Oakland today. If the Jets can knock the Raiders off, New England will earn the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye.
The division title is the first for the Patriots since they won it back-to-back in 1996-97. It is the sixth division title in franchise history, and third since Robert Kraft bought the team.
