INDIANAPOLIS - Peyton Manning in a Dolphins uniform? Stranger things have happened and Miami certainly would be among the teams interested in the future Hall of Famer if the situation presented itself.
Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland just finished addressing the media and many of his questions dealt with the quarterback position. Standing at a podium just inside a wall adorned with a huge Manning poster at Lucas Oil Stadium, Ireland wasn't asked specifically about the idea of acquiring the Colts superstar, but the thought of a long-term vs. short-term solution was posed.
Clearly, Manning would fall into the latter category, and while Ireland would prefer a more long-term answer he was not opposed to filling the need in that manner.
"I don't think it has to be long-term solution. I think we're open to a short-term solution," Ireland said, not specifically about Manning or anyone else. "Obviously you'd like a long-term solution but then you can try to get both. My job is to try to build the tram for today and for the future.
"[The quarterback situation] is an ongoing process. There are some things that we need to figure out and we'll continue to go day-by-day."
We missed the Tom Brady-Manning battle in 2011, could we make up for that with the two going at it twice in 2012 as division rivals?
