An ESPN report Sunday morning indicated that the Patriots had signed director of player personnel Nick Caserio to a contract extension that runs through the 2020 season.
That news came on the eve of what is normally referred to as "Black Monday" around the NFL, because it is the day, following the regular season finales, that most teams that plan to change head coaches and front office personnel hand out pink slips. According to the report that cited unnamed NFL sources, the deal had been done for several weeks prior to the news being leaked.
Caserio was rumored to be a candidate for potentially vacant general manager positions around the league this coming offseason. He had interviewed for the GM job in Miami last offseason.
