Report: Patriots release Dowling

New England's former second-round cornerback is said to be gone after two-plus disappointing seasons.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Patriots have parted ways with Ras-I Dowling.

Plagued by injuries even before he arrived in Foxborough, the cornerback was a surprisingly high draft choice (2nd round, 33rd pick overall) in 2011, who showed signs of potential, but never fully realized his talents. That was due, in large part, to his inability to remain on the field for any length of time. He only appeared in nine games in his short Patriots career, a direct result of his many injuries sustained since he got to New England.

The team's active roster remains at 75, however, if other media reports are true. The Patriots apparently claimed Ja'Gared Davis, a linebacker, of waivers from Houston.
