The first move of the post-Tom Brady era in New England was reportedly made Tuesday evening as NFL Network indicated the Patriots plan to sign free agent wide receiver Damiere Byrd.
Byrd spent the first three years of his career in Carolina before joining the Cardinals in 2019. He caught a career-best 32 passes for 359 yards and a touchdown last year in the desert. The 5-9, 180-pound Byrd was originally signed by the Panthers as an undrafted free agent in 2015 after his career at South Carolina. He spent time on the Panthers practice squad in 2015 and '16 before being elevated to the active roster toward the end of the season. Byrd also has some experience as a punt returner, averaging 9.4 yards on 12 career returns, 11 of which came in 2018.
For his career, Byrd has 44 receptions for 488 yards and three touchdowns in 28 games including three starts.
