Though the playoffs are just beginning, the 2018 calendar year is coming to a close. It's been a long year for Patriots fans with good times, hard times, hilarious times and everything in between.
We're taking a look back at some of the highlights from the year that was with memorable moments, milestones and social media posts. Whether it was massive snow storms, viral moments or days in the community, there was a lot to celebrate in 2018.
Snow Days Off
The year began in snowy fashion. Heavy snowfall came down, creating whiteout conditions in New England, but as we know, there are "Snow days off," especially when playoff preparation is on the line. So the Patriots trekked to work from the stadium to their indoor practice facilities.
Typically, the walk, though longer than normal, is manageable. On this day, however, it was, well, cold.
With a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Patriots were on to back-to-back Super Bowls. When thinking back to that game, Stephon Gilmore's fourth down breakup with less than two minutes in the game is what comes to mind. The play was masterful.
Tom Brady = MVP
We don't need to remind you that the Patriots hopes for back-to-back Super Bowl championships were dashed by the Eagles, but there was a bright spot from the Patriots time in Minneapolis. Tom Brady was named the 2018 NFL MVP.
Brady, Brady, Brady
The 2018 rookie class, no doubt, grew up watching Tom Brady, and it showed at the Combine in March. Young players brought up Brady, Brady and more Brady.
Gronk the Horse
Every offseason, there is no shortage of funny, weird and unique stories. The oddball story of the offseason, far and away, was Gronk the Horse. A horse named after the tight end made waves competing at Belmont Stakes, and Gronk the Human eventually bought stake in his namesake. This was a weird one, but Gronk had fun with it.
Patriots Yanny vs. Laurel
It feels like a lifetime ago, but this summer, the Internet lost its collective mind over an audio recording. Did you hear Yanny or did you hear Laurel? For Patriots fans, the debate was a little different. Did you hear Brady or GOAT? Same thing, honestly.
Tom, Brady and Tom Brady
In the blink of an eye, the offseason was over, and training camp was upon us. Patriots fans flock from all over New England, the country and the world to see their team practice. A pair of adorable guests made their way from Hong Kong and into the hearts of Patriots Nation.
Tom and Brady meeting Tom Brady was a perfect and precious moment.
Practice under the lights
The Patriots in-stadium practice during training camp always draws a crowd, and with a day off on the line, Isaiah Wynn gave them a show.
The GOAT's birthday is a holiday in Foxborough, and because it falls during training camp, of course there is a party. This year, that meant a goat made of balloons, lots of signs and a massive -- we mean, MASSIVE -- birthday cake. Hey, nothing but the best for TB12.
It isn't a year with the Patriots without acts of kindness in the community. For the first time, the Patriots hosted a Bed-Zone Bash with Bob's Discount Furniture to provide children in need with beds. For many of them, this was their first bed of their own. The kids got to meet their favorite Patriots players, watch a movie and jump on their brand new mattresses.
Matt Light: HOF Prankster
Matt Light was inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame presented by Raytheon, and while Matt was a beloved Patriot for his performance on the field, he will go down in history as one of the great locker room Patriots. In Matt's case, that meant taking no mercy, playing pranks on his teammates relentlessly.
Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, Kevin Faulk and Dan Koppen shared some of their favorite stories about Matt ahead of his induction.
Julian Edelman returns
This says it all.
Crane Kick Celebration
After Patrick Chung picked off Andrew Luck, he and Duron Harmon honored the "Karate Kid" in celebration. It was epic.
And when Jonathan Jones had an interception of his own, his daughter had an adorable reaction that warmed the hearts of Patriots fans everywhere.
A Very Disney Halloween
Most days, it's all business for the Patriots, but at the annual children's Halloween party, the guys stepped it up and got into character. More specifically, they got into Disney characters. The guys embraced Pooh, the Genie and Tigger in a wonderful video.
Bring in the Duck Boats
After the Red Sox cliched their World Series victory this fall, the guys brought their celebration all over Red Sox Nation, and lucky fans at the Patriots game against the Green Bay Packers were able to see two Boston teams at Gillette Stadium in one night. The Red Sox rolled onto the field in epic fashion before the game.
Yes, they showed up on a duck boat, and it was amazing.
A "Friends" Thanksgiving
This Patriots twist on classic "Friends" scenes was a hilarious way to bring in Thanksgiving.
Ja'Whaun Bentley Opens Up
After volunteering with the Patriots Foundation around Thanksgiving, Ja'Whaun Bentley decided it was time to share his family's story. Since Ja'Whaun was in high school, his family has struggled with homelessness, and with an infectious smile and positive attitude, he hid this from most people in his life.
This year, Ja'Whaun was able to put his family in a home of their own and opened up about his family's struggle for the first time to Patriots.com.
It was a long time coming. Like a real long time. Tom finally made it to 1,000 rushing yards, and though he has broken record after record in his NFL career, this one was the most fun to watch unfold on social media.
The Season of Giving
All year long the Patriots give back to the New England community, but they stepped it up this holiday season. Devin McCourty, Adrian Clayborn, Kyle Van Noy and Lawrence Guy hosted four separate events where they helped local families shop for winter necessities and gifts for their kids and families. Despite on the field accomplishments, these moments stand alone.
Thank you, St. Nick
The year came full circle when Nick Foles and the Eagles helped the Patriots secure the No. 2 seed in the AFC with their win over the Texans. Who would have thought Patriots Nation would be rooting for the Eagles in 2018? Hey, stranger things have happened.
Thanks for a great 2018, Patriots Nation. Now, we're on to the playoffs and we're on to 2019.
