The epilogue of "Tom vs. Time," which aired Wednesday, six months after the last installment, tells the story of Tom reflecting on the offseason and his future in football. With an emphasis on spending time with family, Tom opens up about being there for his kids, the trajectory of his career and his will to push through and continue playing until 45.
Sitting on his couch and talking about his football career, Tom makes it clear that he wants to keep growing as a player, no matter how difficult it may be.
"It'll be a challenge for me. I don't think it's going to be easy. I think it's going to be very hard to do. Once you stop, you're done, and I think I'm not ready to say that I'm done because I don't feel like I am," Tom said. "I still feel like there are things to accomplish. It'd be like getting close to the top of the mountain and say, 'Ah, that's good. I'm good.' No, I worked really hard to get to this point. Why not finish it off?"
"I think the last eight years of my career have been better than the first 10, so I should just prolong it. That's what I'm trying to do."
While talking about his future, Tom doesn't shy away from the ugly parts, but he simply doesn't care about what people have to say.
"If I'm going to do something at this point, it's going to be because I enjoy it. The last couple of years, a lot of parts about football weren't enjoyable when they should have been. Some of that was my approach. I think any time you're together with people for a long period of time, relationships ebb and flow, and I think people are looking for something to write and talk about," Tom said. "They want to talk about a lot of drama, and I'm sure a lot of teams have things like that, but ours is just to the 10th degree. You learn to deal with it better. I just don't give a [expletive] that much anymore about anything. I think a lot of keeping things in perspective, like, nothing's that big of a deal to me anymore. And maybe I'm just caring about certain things that really matter, like my family, like people's health, like life and death. But to worry about a lot of [expletive] people say or think or feel, I really don't care anymore."
