V'Angelo Bentley enters his first season with the New England Patriots in 2022 in an NFL coaching fellowship role following three seasons as a coaching assistant at Penn State. Bentley played cornerback at Illinois, where he played in 46 career games with 32 starts and registered 132 total tackles, one sack, two interceptions, 11 passes defensed, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. He also served as the primary kickoff and punt returner during his college career. He is the only player in school history with a kickoff return, punt return, interception return and fumble return for touchdowns. Bentley signed with New England as a rookie free agent in 2016 but was released prior to the start of the regular season.
His mother, Angela, served two tours in the Afghanistan war and retired from the Air Force after 25 years of service. He majored in communications as an undergrad and studied recreation, sport and tourism as a graduate student at Illinois.
