During that 2011 season, Rex wore a wristband with the phrase "Team Jack," which helped bring pediatric brain cancer into the national spotlight. Burkhead hosted Hoffman for a lunch, provided a personal tour of Memorial Stadium and has since joined the board of directors of the "Team Jack Foundation," which has raised more than $4 million dollars to fight pediatric brain cancer since 2013. Rex recently hosted a fund raiser this past offseason at his high school alma mater that raised roughly $45,000. In 2013, Jack Hoffman’s touchdown run during Nebraska’s spring football scrimmage went viral and earned him an ESPY award.
- Burkhead is named after 1980s University of Kentucky basketball star Rex Chapman. Rex was born in Kentucky and his father had played in high school against Chapman, who went on to a 13-year career in the NBA.
