Patriots sign DL John Hughes; Sign WR Da'Ron Brown to practice squad

The New England Patriots announced today that they have signed veteran DL John Hughes. In addition, the Patriots announced that they have signed WR Da'Ron Brown to the practice squad.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots announced today that they have signed veteran DL John Hughes. Terms of the contract were not announced. 

In addition, the Patriots announced that they have signed WR Da'Ron Brown to the practice squad. 

Hughes, 27, originally entered the NFL as a third-round draft pick (87th overall) of the Cleveland Browns out of Cincinnati in the 2012 NFL Draft. He played in the 2016 season opener for Cleveland in a reserve role before being released on Sept. 20. The 6-foot-2, 320-pounder, has played in 53 NFL games with 10 starts and has 123 total tackles, 5 1/2 sacks, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. 

Brown, 25, originally entered the NFL as a seventh-round draft pick (233rd overall) of the Kansas City Chiefs out of Northern Illinois in the 2015 NFL Draft. The 6-foot, 199-pounder, spent his rookie season on the Kansas City practice squad. He was released by Kansas City on Sept. 3, 2016.
