Marisa Silva, a nurse at Boston Children's Hospital, didn't suspect a thing when a coworker asked for her help bringing stuffed animals to the patients in their unit on Tuesday morning. They snuck away down the hall and opened a door where former Patriot Sebastian Vollmer was waiting.
"What is happening?" Marisa said, laughing.
"You're not in trouble by the way," Sebastian said to reassure her.
She wasn't in trouble, not by a long shot. Instead, Sebastian gave Marisa a gift as a thank you for her hard work and dedication to her patients: two tickets to Super Bowl LII.
The Patriots and the Kraft family wanted to show their appreciation for a local nurse who not only loved the Patriots but who also provides exceptional care for her patients.
And Marisa was the perfect fit.
She and her husband have been on the season ticket member wait list for 10 years and both work as nurses. This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, Marisa said, and it made her shopping list a little shorter.
"I actually don't have a Christmas gift for my husband, so this is pretty perfect," she said with a smile. "Thank you to the Patriots because I don't have to go shopping now ... It's a dream come true."
Sebastian made the visit to Boston Children's Hospital to deliver Marisa's tickets in person, and he also read "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" as part of the Boston Pops annual concert at the hospital.
