Players to Watch: Patriots vs. Panthers
Patriots Football Weekly's Andy Hart shares his players to watch during the Patriots preseason matchup with the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium on Friday, August 24, 2018.

Adrian Clayborn, DE - One of New England's biggest offseason additions, Clayborn has gotten off to a nice start and has made an impact in summer action. He will get another chance to keep the playmaking momentum rolling with a new challenge against Cam Newton and all the quarterback brings to the field.

Tom Brady, QB - After making his August debut with a successful outing against Philly last week, Brady and the passing game will look build on that against the Panthers. At this point, TB12's every step is worth watching.

Rob Gronkowski, TE - The big tight end has yet to suit up this summer for game action and it's anyone's guess if he'll play in Week 3 in Carolina. But if he does it will be a nice boost for the passing game and a quality matchup with the Panthers linebackers.

Ja'Whaun Bentley, LB - The rookie has a chance to prove three's a charm as he builds off two impressive weeks of preseason action. Bentley looks like he's very much in the mix for at least rotational reps on defense to open his NFL career.

Jason McCourty, CB - Devin's twin has had a very unique first few months in New England. He allowed an easy touchdown against Philly, but still could be very much in line for a starting job. McCourty could go a long way toward proving himself in this dress-rehearsal action in Carolina.

Cam Newton, QB - The former MVP is one of the most unique athletes in the league with his combination of size, arm strength and running ability. He poses a unique challenge for a Patriots defense that's probably feeling good about itself after last week's performance against the Eagles.

Julius Peppers, DE - Back for another season in Carolina, the former No. 2 overall pick continues to chug along into his 17th NFL season. The freakish athlete probably should have the JP90 method as he continues to produce at the age of 38, coming off an 11-sack season that was the 10th time he reached double-digits in his Hall of Fame career.

Christian McCaffrey, RB - As diminutive NFL playmakers go, last year's first-round pick is a major weapon. McCaffrey is coming off a strong performance that included a 71-yard touchdown run that showed his breakaway speed as he looks to live up to the immense hype heading into his second season.

Luke Kuechly, LB - There are few more well-rounded linebackers than Kuechly. The Patriots are coming off a game in which passes to the running backs and short parts of the field were the key to success. Kuechly generally makes such plays far less fruitful.

Torrey Smith, WR - New England's pass coverage has left something to be desired this summer. Smith has a new home in Carolina after his contributions to the Eagles success last season, including his five catches for 49 yards in the Super Bowl.
