Giants Postgame Quotes 9/3

New York Giants Head Coach Tom Coughlin and select players comment on their preseason game against the New England Patriots on Thursday, September 3, 2015.

Giants Head Coach Tom Coughlin

TC: It was a typical tough ball game with lots of people getting a chance to play. [The Patriots] didn't obviously play a bunch of guys and we had a group that played probably 12 plays - a couple of guys that went more, just like I said and a couple that didn't play. It came down to a second half with a lot of people realizing it was their opportunity and they played hard and that's probably the best thing you can say about it. The turnover at the game was really nice to be in that position because I would have probably thought that they would have gone for the touchdown.

Q: You didn't play Eli Manning or Odell Beckham Jr. What was your thinking behind that?

TC: I didn't want to play them. I didn't need to play them. I thought we had a pretty good week of practice and there wasn't a whole lot to be gained at this point in time. The real reason was that we wanted Ryan Nassib to get a full opportunity there and he certainly did.

Q: How did he do?

TC: I'll look at the tape. We got into position a number of times, had to kick field goals, which has been pretty much the story of preseason. He directed the offense - he did a nice job of that. He took care of the ball. I would have to look at some of the ways in which he came out. I thought he could have stepped up and got the ball thrown, but he was out there and the pressure was one him. I would have to look at the tape to see it. I'm glad he got the opportunity.

Q: You used [Nikita] Whitlock in a number of different roles.

TC: Yeah, we did. We used him for all kinds of special teams and we used him in there in the defensive line at the end of the game. Played the fullback position; he did get an awful lot of snaps.

Q: Jason Pierre-Paul is coming back next week. I assume you are aware of that news? Your reaction to that news?

TC: I just heard that and if it's true, great; get him in here and let's see where we are.

Q: Tom, if I could, big news out about Tom [Brady] today...

TC: I'm not touching that. I don't have anything to do with that and that's just the way it is.

Odell Beckham Jr., Wide Receiver

*(On if he is confident going into the regular season) *
"I don't know, we just need to go in for next week and practice the best that we can to get ready for Dallas. The preseason is over, the reality is there are going to be guys who are leaving."

*(On what he thought about not playing tonight) *
"I talked to Coach [Head Coach Tom Coughlin] before the game and he made a decision and there's nothing you can do. It was good to be able to watch guys go out there and compete. At the end of the day, guys have been fighting and playing all their live for this moment and some of them aren't going to make it. It's tough to watch people go in this business when you know the work that goes into it."

*(On if he'll be ready to go next Sunday) *
"I guess we'll see Sunday. I can't wait. To open up against Dallas in their stadium is huge. All you can do is prepare for the win."

Jay Bromley, Defensive Tackle

*(On the preseason) *
"I always go out there to prove myself. I want to get better, even if I have a good play, I want to be even better. It is just me just pushing the envelope and being unsatisfied with anything that I do. It helps keep me pushing forward."

Stevie Brown, Safety

*(On the interception) *
"You hustle to get to the ball and good things happen, that's really what it is."

*(On coming back and his role on the defense) *
"Whatever they need me to do. I got a few reps down in the nickel and played a lot of safety, just whatever they need me to do. It's all stuff I've done before, stuff that I believe I can do."

Landon Collins, Safety

*(On if he thought his play tonight was close to where he wanted it to be) *
"Yes, definitely. I felt good out on the field."

*(On what the mindset is after tonight) *
"Watching a lot of film and getting ready for the Dallas Cowboys. As a team get our mind right and get ready for the game."

*(On some of his big hits during the game) *
"It felt good. I'm known for a big hitter and I wanted to showcase that tonight."

Geremy Davis, Wide Receiver

(On his 40 yard reception)
"The offensive line did a great job holding up and Ryan [Nassib] threw a great ball.  I made sure I was in position and I caught it.  The team made the play.  I came back to the sideline and Odell [Beckham Jr.] helped me out, he said 'try to back check that guy and you score'.  I will remember that for next time."

Jayron Hosley, Cornerback

(On playing in the preseason)
"You want to get back in the groove. You want to establish some things and see things to obviously get back into your game. It is important and especially since there is camaraderie with the defense. Also, you want to get back into your game rhythm."
