Jets release RB Flowers, 18 others

The New York Jets waived running back Little John Flowers along with 18 others.

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (Sept. 3, 2005) -- The New York Jets waived running back Little John Flowers along with 18 others.

The Jets also cut defensive backs Atari Bigby, Aaron Francisco and Brandon Haw, running back Terry Butler, quarterback Kevin Eakin, defensive linemen Joey Evans, Radell Lockhart and Tim McGill, wide receivers Chas Gessner, Terrence Stubbs, Harry Williams and Jovan Witherspoon, linebackers Dennis Haley and James Kinney, offensive linemen Michael King, Mike Kracalik and Chuck Missant and fullback Austine Nwabuisi.

Gessner, Stubbs and Williams were competing for the No. 5 receiver spot, but nobody stood out during camp. The Jets will try to sign Williams, a seventh-round pick, to the practice squad.

Flowers had a touchdown run against the Eagles, but the Jets have plenty of depth in the backfield with Curtis Martin, Derrick Blaylock and Cedric Houston.

The Jets have two open roster spots, and are going to wait for all teams to make cuts to look for an offensive lineman and receiver.
