Patriots acquire TE Eric Saubert in a trade with Atlanta; release QB Danny Etling

The New England Patriots announced today that they have acquired TE Eric Saubert from the Atlanta Falcons in a trade for undisclosed draft considerations.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots announced today that they have acquired TE Eric Saubert (SAW-bert) from the Atlanta Falcons in a trade for undisclosed draft considerations. In addition, the Patriots released QB Danny Etling.

Saubert, 25, is a veteran of two NFL seasons with Atlanta after originally joining the team as a fifth-round draft pick (174th overall) out of Drake. The 6-foot-5, 253-pounder has played in 30 NFL games with one start and has five receptions for 48 yards.

Etling, 25, was drafted by New England in the seventh-round (219th overall) out of Louisiana State in the 2018 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder spent last season on the New England practice squad.
