Patriots Locker Room Quotes 1/9

Patriots players comment on their upcoming playoff game against the Houston Texans during locker room media access on Monday, January 9, 2017.

T NATE SOLDER

(On finding out they would be playing the Texans)
"I think that it's going to be a real challenge because they have some familiarity with the area, they have some familiarity with the way we do things, everything that we do. I think they have great coaches and I think they have a really good defense, so it's going to be tough for us."

(On the focus of this football team right now)
"One hundred percent – we're all about this next game, all about what we need to do to prepare to get ready to play our best."

(On the biggest changes from the Texans since the last time they played here)
"They're doing some scheme stuff differently but they're playing great ball. They're making it hard on you. They're not giving up a lot of easy completions or anything like that. You've got to earn everything that you get."

(On putting the Week 3 victory over the Texans behind them)
"We don't need to worry about that. This is a whole different animal here we are playing. They're a long ways away from where they were before and we know that."

(On how much the home crowd helps)
"We have great fans. It's a great place to play, but it really comes down to us. It really comes down to how we perform on Saturday."

CB MALCOLM BUTLER

(On much he is looking forward to this weekend)
"Very exciting, we've still got another chance, another opportunity to go out there and play, but the only thing that matters is getting the win. You've got to prepare for the best and play your best because all the teams left are the best teams, so you've got to be ready to play."

(On the 27-0 victory over Houston earlier this season)
"Of course we won the game, but teams are not peaking early in the season, so you most definitely say they got better, we got better, so time will tell."

(On finding out they'd be playing the Texans this week)
"Either way it [went], we knew we were going to be able to play somebody. We've just got to be ready to go and execute the game plan. It's all about winning the game."

(On if the Texans' performance last weekend turned heads in the locker room)
"Most definitely, that's why they're advancing to the next round. You've just got to be ready to play."

(On the importance of having home field advantage)
"That really doesn't mean anything. The team that plays the best on that day, no matter where you are, the team that plays the best is going to advance to the next round, so you've got to perform well."

(On if he looks forward to a matchup against a receiver like DeAndre Hopkins)
"No matter who I'm up against, I'm ready to play. Fifteen [DeAndre Hopkins], 10 [Will Fuller], I just have to go out there and do what I have to do to help my team win."

(On what they did well the last time to limit DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller)
"We went out there with a good mentality, a mentality to stop the pass, not give up any deep balls and take away their key weapons. That's all we did."

(On if those are the same keys to limiting those players this time around)
"If it's going to help us win, of course."

(On what he saw in Brock Osweiler that led him to success last weekend)
"He made some plays, kept his confidence and got the ball to his key players. He made some plays with his feet also, so he did a pretty good job."

LB ROB NINKOVICH

(On what he saw from watching the Texans play over the weekend)
"Yeah, again, I think that they're playing really well in all three phases. I think that their running game is very strong, so we have a challenge. It starts today preparing for that challenge."

(On how much it helps to play at home in the playoffs)
"I really don't think it means much at all. I think you have to play well. That's what it all comes down to is playing good football in all three phases. Home advantage, whatever it may be, it doesn't really make a difference unless you're playing good football."

(On if the guys in this locker room understand what's at stake)
"I think that we all understand we have to take the time that we have right now to get ready to play a football game where you have to play well or you don't continue to move on. You have to play well and if you don't, then you don't get another opportunity to play."

(On what Bill Belichick's message has been about putting the regular season 27-0 win over Houston behind you)
"I mean, it's already behind us. It was Week [3] or whatever it was in the season. I mean, I wasn't here for it, so I'm looking forward to this week and getting ready to go against these guys and watching the last few games on them playing and getting ready to play."

(On what Brock Osweiler brings to the table as a quarterback)
"I think he's a big guy in the pocket. He can stand tall in there, he can make all the throws, and he's also athletic so he can get out and extend plays, so as a front you have to do a great job with your pass rush integrity and understand that he's a good quarterback in the pocket and can make all the throws."

(On blocking out the noise and reports that the Texans are a two-touchdown underdog coming in here)
"I don't even think about – what anyone is saying outside the building, I don't even think about it. For me, I'm just getting ready to get in my playbook and prepare and have a good practice tomorrow. That's what I'm worried about."
