Originally drafted by Pittsburgh in the second round (62nd overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft ... Re-signed by Pittsburgh as an unrestricted free agent (3/19/21) ... Signed by Kansas City as an unrestricted free agent from Pittsburgh (3/21/22).

2023 (11/7)

Appeared in 11 games with seven starts and finished with 29 receptions for 260 yards (9.0 avg) and 1 touchdown. Was inactive for four games due to injury - at Las Vegas (10/15), vs. Buffalo (10/22), vs. Kansas City (12/17) and at Denver (12/24) - before being placed on the injured reserve list on Dec. 30.
Made his Patriots debut in the season opener, starting at wide receiver vs. Philadelphia (9/10). Recorded 4 receptions for 33 yards.

As a junior, named Cal-Hi Sports California Junior of the Year, and named Cal Hi Sports All-State first team, Max Preps All-State Division I first-team, ALL-CIF Pac-5 Division Co-Offensive Player of the Year, Los Angeles Time All-Area and Long Beach Press Telegram All-Area Player of the Year.

EXTRA POINTS

JuJu Smith-Schuster was originally born as simply John Smith. The origins of the nickname came from JuJu's aunt when he was just a few years old. His aunt originally began calling him John-John but quickly switch it to JuJu which permanently stuck. When he was just eight years old Smith-Schuster changed his name in football program listings in 2012 from "John" to "JuJu." When he was 18 he legally changed his last name from "Smith" to "Smith-Schuster" as a tribute to his stepfather who helped raise him. He told the Los Angeles Time the last name change just felt like the right thing for him to do.
Smith-Schuster grew up playing in the Snoop Youth Football League, founded by famous rapper Snoop Dogg. Snoop Dogg served as a coach in the league and even coined the nickname "SportsCenter" for Smith-Shuster.
