Game Preview: Patriots at Browns

The New England Patriots will look to get back in the win column this Sunday when they travel to face the Cleveland Browns.

The New England Patriots will look to get back in the win column this Sunday when they travel to face the Cleveland Browns.

After a 3-0 start, the Patriots lost last Sunday at home, 16-0, to the Buffalo Bills. Since the beginning of 2003, the Patriots are 40-6 (.869) in regular season games following a loss.

This Sunday's game is the first of three straight games against AFC North opponents for the Patriots. New England will return to Gillette Stadium following the Cleveland game to host the Cincinnati Bengals on Oct. 16 and then travel to face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Oct. 23. The Patriots will round out their schedule against the AFC North when they host the Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football on Dec. 12.

The Patriots are an NFL-best 49-17 in the month of October since the 2000 season. The Patriots are 29-5 at home during that time in October and 20-12 on the road.

The Patriots and Browns will meet for the 24th time overall, including one postseason meeting, when the clubs square off on Sunday.

The Teams will be playing against each other for the first time since a 27-26 victory by the Patriots at Gillette Stadium on Dec. 8, 2013. It will be the Patriots first visit to Cleveland since losing, 34-14, at FirstEnergy Stadium. That loss was one of only two losses the Patriots had during the 2010 regular season.

Cleveland leads the all-time series with a 13-10 mark, including the one postseason game when the Bill Belichick-led Browns claimed a 20-13 victory over the Patriots on New Year's Day, 1995 in a Wild Card Playoff game at Cleveland's Municipal Stadium

The Patriots are 4-8 overall in games played in Cleveland, including a 2-2 record at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

Cleveland is 5-6 all-time against the Patriots in games played in New England, including 0-3 at Gillette Stadium following losses in 2003 and 2007. Overall, the Browns have lost four straight times in New England.

PATRIOTS VS. AFC NORTH

This week's game is the Patriots' first of four meetings against the AFC North, including the first of three straight games against the North division. The last time the Patriots played all four AFC North teams in a season was in 2013, when they compiled a 3-1 record against the division. The Patriots will host Cincinnati next week (10/16) before traveling to Pittsburgh (10/23). The Patriots will wrap up AFC North play when they host Baltimore on Monday Night Football on Dec. 12. New England is 42-36 against AFC North teams overall in the regular season and 5-4 in the postseason. The Patriots are 20-6 against the AFC North since the NFL realignment in 2002, including 4-1 against Cleveland.

Tom Brady is slated to start against Cleveland for the seventh time in his career.
