Braintree's Brian Chamberlain named Patriots High School Coach of the Week

Foxborough, Mass. - With a 46-28 victory over Framingham on Friday night, Braintree head coach Brian Chamberlain led the Wamps to a 3-0 record and has been named this week's New England Patriots High School Coach of the Week. Chamberlain is the second honoree of the 2018 season after Bishop Feehan's Gary Doherty won the award last week.

The Wamps' decisive victory propelled them to the top spot in Division 2 South in the Boston Herald's rankings and 12th in the state by the Boston Globe. The game began with a closely contested first quarter that saw Braintree maintain a 14-8 edge following a 4-yard touchdown run by junior quarterback Michael Tellier. The Wamps pulled away in the second stanza, surging to a 33-14 halftime lead after a kickoff return for a touchdown by junior P.J. Rodrigues-Gomes and an explosive touchdown drive, highlighted by a long completion from Tellier to wide receiver Jack McCarthy. Standout senior running back/linebacker Billy Silvia also contributed on both sides of the ball as he ran for a touchdown, forced and recovered a fumble and intercepted a tipped pass. Chamberlain coached his Wamps to success in all three phases of the game, as they scored a special teams touchdown, forced two turnovers and led several successful touchdown drives. Braintree improved to 3-0 with the victory, having knocked off Quincy, 28-13, and Barnstable, 47-27, in the first two weeks of the season. The Wamps will look to remain undefeated this week as they host Natick on Friday night at 7 p.m.

Patriots and Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Andre Tippett, now the team's executive director of community affairs, visited the Braintree players and coaching staff Tuesday evening to present Braintree's football program with a $1,000 donation on behalf of the New England Patriots Foundation, in honor of Coach Chamberlain. The visit and check presentation will be featured on the Patriots weekly television show, "Patriots All Access," which airs on Friday night at 7 p.m. on WBZ-TV in Boston and will be available immediately after on

"The Wamps' perfect 3-0 start is a testament to Coach Chamberlain and the entire Braintree football program," Tippett said. "The team dominated all three phases of the game on Friday night and we wish them the best of luck as they continue their 2018 campaign."

At the conclusion of the fall, one of the weekly winners will be named the New England Patriots High School Coach of the Year and will receive an additional $2,000 contribution towards the school's football program.
