PHOENIX - For the first time in franchise history, the New England Patriots will be featured on HBO's Hard Knocks.

The NFL announced Monday at its annual league meeting that the Patriots are slated to appear on the long-running documentary series during training camp in the summer of 2027. Defending Super Bowl champion Seattle will be featured in 2026, marking a rare two-year reveal of future Hard Knocks training camp teams.

Produced by NFL Films and HBO, Hard Knocks has chronicled the daily rhythm of training camp since 2001, following one team through practices, meetings, roster cuts and preseason preparation. Despite the show's 25-year history, the Patriots had never appeared, largely because of eligibility rules. Those barriers have gradually fallen away.

The NFL revised its selection criteria in recent years, removing an exemption for teams that had reached the playoffs. The only remaining disqualifiers include having a first-year head coach or a recent appearance on the show. With Mike Vrabel set to be well established by 2027, the Patriots now qualify under the league's guidelines.

The timing also reflects a new phase for the franchise, as the Patriots have reemerged as one of the league's most compelling stories under Vrabel and quarterback Drake Maye. New England's unexpected run to Super Bowl LX reestablished the team's national profile and made it an attractive candidate for NFL Films.

The 2027 appearance will close a long-running gap between the Patriots and one of the league's most recognizable media properties. It will also offer fans an extended look inside a franchise still redefining itself, shaped by new leadership, a young quarterback and expectations that once again extend beyond rebuilding.
