News Blitz 5/13: Latest Ryan Mallett trade buzz

Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reports that there is still "mutual interest" between the Patriots and Houston Texans in a trade involving quarterback Ryan Mallett.

"From what I understand, there is still a chance (for a trade)," Rapoport said on NFL Network.  He added that May 27 is the key date because that's when New England takes the field for organized team activities. READ MORE>>

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports via Twitter that the Texans will not be trading for Ryan Mallett. That would leave Houston with veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick and rookie Tom Savage as the team's only quarterback options heading into the season.

Peter King of Sports Illustrated doesn't believe trading for Ryan Mallett is the solution to any team's quarterback problem.

"I realize he was a tempting prospect in 2011 out of Arkansas," writes King. "He may well be a very good NFL quarterback. But I certainly wouldn't pay much for him, and if I brought him to camp all I would do is hope that he could compete for a roster spot and push the starter." READ MORE>>

Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com believes the Patriots could take another look at signing Dustin Keller after the team decided against drafting a tight end this past weekend.

"The veteran free agent visited the club last week and with the Patriots not drafting a tight end, perhaps they revisit the possibility of signing Keller," writes Reiss. READ MORE>>
