News Blitz 8/8: Camp continues

A roundup of Patriots news for Monday, August 8th.

As always, your most thorough and accurate source for Patriots training camp coverage is right here on Patriots.com.

Andy Hart provides his extensive blogservations from Sunday's afternoon scrimmage, while I caught up with WR Julian Edelman on his first day back in full pads this summer, among other noteworthy items from Sunday. On the video side, Miranda Mason and Bob Socci offer their perspective from the weekend's action on the field.

Other media members posted a few items worth noting. ESPN's blog, for instance, has a look at the competition at tight end, with a focus on the recent achievements of second-year TE AJ Derby.

The Boston Globe gets in the prediction business, taking an early guess at New England's final 53-man roster. Meanwhile, the Boston Herald has a feature on a player trying to defy the odds to make the roster, that being undrafted rookie cornerback Jonathan Jones.

"You get what you earn. You have to show up every day," Jones said. "[Malcolm Butler] is definitely an example, and there's plenty of other examples here of guys who were undrafted and ended up making the team, so I definitely think there are some examples to follow."

The Sun Chronicle went on the other side of the ball to single out rookie pass catcher Malcolm Mitchell, a member of the 2016 draft class who insists he's taking nothing for granted at camp.

"For me, honestly, it's just all about doing the best you can and you have to live with it," he said. "Football is like anything else. You have highs. You have lows. But if you consistently work hard, I believe you'll be okay."

Finally today, NESN.com takes a different approach, examining how several second-year Patriots are progressing in this year's camp.
