Raiders sign former Vikings DE Johnstone

Defensive end Lance Johnstone rejoined the Raiders, leaving the Minnesota Vikings after five seasons for a free-agent contract with Oakland.

ALAMEDA, Calif. (April 13, 2006) -- Defensive end Lance Johnstone rejoined the Raiders, leaving the Minnesota Vikings after five seasons for a free-agent contract with Oakland.

Johnstone has 70 sacks in his 10 NFL seasons -- the first five with the Raiders, who selected him in the second round out of Temple in 1996. He had a career-high 11 sacks with Oakland in 1998 and again with Minnesota in 2004.

Johnstone, who left Oakland as a free agent in 2001, led the Vikings with 7½ sacks last season despite playing 12 games. He'll be paired on the Raiders' defensive line with Derrick Burgess, who signed as a free agent last season and led the league with 16 sacks.
