What started out as a foggy day, turned into a sunny fall afternoon as Patriots running back James White suited up against meteorologist Bri Eggers in Channel 7's "Who Did it Better?" challenge. Armed with waders and a wooden scoop, the two dashed into the Ocean Spray Cranberry Bog, located behind Patriot Place's Bass Pro Shop, to see who could harvest the most cranberries in two minutes.
As is customary with all of the "Who Did It Better?" competitions, the challenger was first to go, and James didn't disappoint. The Florida native, who is nicknamed Sweet Feet, made about six or seven quick trips through the roughly 15-inch deep water and made a strong showing in his cranberry harvesting debut.
"I had a lot of fun," James said. "It's something I've never done before, I've never actually seen in person before. So it was a pretty cool experience for me. [I was just thinking] don't fall and to get as many cranberries as possible."
Before taking off for her own turn, Bri reminded James that her peppermint farming background may come in handy in this challenge. She made for some tough competition as she powered through water and, just like James, grabbed scoops full of cranberries.
Though it was a competition, the two left the trash talk behind them and gave each other plenty of support as they sprinted through the bog.
Winded after the challenge, the two placed their crates side by side to see who had more. While they weren't able to collect all 7,500 pounds of cranberries that were in the bog, their harvest could provide a couple families with enough cranberry sauce for their Thanksgiving spreads.
In the meantime, venture over to the bog behind Bass Pro Shop on Saturday, Oct. 22 for Ocean Spray's Fall Harvest. The event kicks off at 10 a.m. and features multiple fall activities to celebrate the farmers harvesting the bog.
