Mike Pollom, a college scouting department member, passed away Tuesday.

Mike Pollom, a member of the college scouting department since 1987, passed away Tuesday morning at his home in Berea, Ohio after a courageous fight against cancer.

Mike Pollom, a member of the college scouting department since 1987, passed away Tuesday morning at his home in Berea, Ohio after a courageous fight against cancer. He leaves his wife, Tina; and two sons, Patrick (15) and Charlie (13).

Mike Pollom joined the Patriots scouting department on July 1, 1987 and was in his 22nd year as a college scout. He began his scouting career with the Los Angeles Rams in 1974. In 1979, he accepted a scouting assignment with the Buffalo Bills. In 1982, he began scouting for the USFL (1982-85). When the league suspended operation, he signed on with National, a scouting service used by many NFL teams. In 1987, after three seasons with National, he joined the Patriots as a regional scout. Mike was born Jan. 29, 1952 in Manhattan Beach, California. He attended El Camino College in California and Centralia College in Washington.
