Patriots Locker Room Transcripts 9/4

Patriots WR Julian Edelman, WR Chris Hogan and RB James White address the media during media access at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, September 4, 2016.

WR JULIAN EDELMAN

(On being healthy and able to start the season)
"Any time you get to play in game one, it's always a relief regardless of any kind of situation. We've got a lot of work. We're playing against a team that we don't see very often, so we still have a little time to go out and prepare and get ready for that."

(On being able to get in some preseason reps with Jimmy Garoppolo)
"It was good to get out there and get hit a couple times, try to get on the same page as all the quarterbacks you played with. That's what the preseason is for and what training camp is for, so it was good to get out there."

(On what he can do to help Jimmy Garoppolo along)
"What I can do is go out there and try to do my job to the best of my ability and put myself in a situation so that whenever Jimmy [Garoppolo] calls your number, you're there. That's what I can do. As far as evaluating him, I can say that he works hard and he has grown up over the last couple of years, but that's not really my job to go out and say how he's doing this and that. I just have to prepare to do everything I can to help him out."

(On emotions today as Tom Brady's suspension is in effect and he is not with the team)
"It's pretty cool that we have that banner, I just saw that. Not going to lie, it's like one of your buddies going to jail. It's one of those types of things. The whole situation is unfortunate, but it's happened. We've got to move on. We love him to death. On the field, off the field, he's been a great help in my life. But we've got to deal with the situation and right now the situation is thinking about the Arizona Cardinals and who's going to be out there to go out and play against these guys."

WR CHRIS HOGAN

(On getting into the regular season)
"This is what counts now. The preseason, camp, you're putting in your work, learning the offense, trying to get to know guys. That's what that's for. Now we kind of kick it up a notch, the sense of urgency goes up. This is the regular season now; this counts. There's no preseason anymore, these games mean everything. We're going to be ready to prepare and get ready for this game."

(On what he has learned about Jacoby Brissett and Jimmy Garoppolo)
"That those guys can play at this level. We've seen it with Jimmy [Garoppolo] this whole offseason and Jacoby [Brissett] I think has done really well, too, stepping in with his opportunities. I know those guys are going to prepare really hard this week. I know they've already started, so I'm excited for Jimmy to get out there and play this week."

(On how nice it was to go through a cut down day without having to worry)
"I slept last night. I couldn't say that for four years. I usually don't sleep and I usually just kind of stare at my phone. But this is a tough day for a lot of guys and I've been there. I know what these guys are feeling. They put a lot of time and effort into this. This is their job, this is their life. Being cut, it's tough, but for those guys who didn't make the team, my message to them is just keep grinding and keep working hard, and whatever opportunity you get next, just take advantage of it."

(On likely having a pretty big role at wide receiver this year)
"I'm excited. There are going to be a lot of opportunities for all of us. I think the group that we have is really good and we have a lot of talent in that room. I'm excited to get to work with all of those guys."

RB JAMES WHITE

(On looking forward to the Cardinals during preseason)
"We just focused on the teams we were playing at the time, and now we're just moving on to the Cardinals. We need a great week of practice because it's going to be a tough team to play against."

(On how they are able to roll with the punches when so many things go on that could be a distraction to other teams)
"Things are going to happen. Guys have to be ready to step in and fill those roles if the opportunity presents itself."

(On how comfortable the offense is with the quarterbacks that will be available to start the season)
"We've been practicing with each and every quarterback all throughout training camp as we always do. Everybody has been repping with everybody, so everybody has been able to mesh with each quarterback, so whoever is out there, there's no slack."

(On if there is a step up in intensity as the regular season starts)
"I mean everybody is excited. It's an exciting time of year. Everybody is excited to get the regular season started. It's a great challenge for us in the Cardinals, so like I said, we just need to have a great week of practice."
