FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – An email sent out earlier today erroneously listed the Patriots vs. Dolphins game as the highest-rated Patriots game of the season. Unfortunately, we used the game's peak audience rating (45.9) instead of the average viewer rating. New England's 36-7 victory, which aired nationally on CBS and NFL Network, actually delivered a 42.9 household rating and a market share of 62, making it the second-highest rated Patriots game through the first eight weeks and seven games of the season. The ratings for the Dolphins at Patriots eclipsed New England's Thursday night season opener vs. the Steelers, which earned a 39.5 household rating, and was bested only by the highly anticipated Week 6 AFC Championship rematch against the Colts in Indianapolis, which garnered a 44.6.
The game's broadcast drew the fifth-highest local household rating ever for a regular season Patriots game and outperformed the Patriots 2014 Thursday Night Football game, Jets at Patriots, both locally and nationally. Locally, the Week 8 victory was rated 18.5 percent higher than last year's Thursday night matchup against the Jets, which posted a household rating of 36.2. Nationally, the game delivered a 12.6 household rating and a market share of 21, up 8.6 percent from the Patriots 2014 TNF matchup, which earned an 11.6 rating and a market share of 19.
In 2015, success in the ratings is becoming a pattern for the Patriots. New England games are averaging a 38.9 household rating, higher than ever before through the first eight weeks of the season. The 2012 Patriots team earned the second-highest midseason average, garnering a 35.7 through Week 8.
This week, the Patriots take on the Washington Redskins on Sunday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. ET. It will be the Patriots' "Salute to Service" game, when the Patriots and their fans all have an opportunity to honor true patriots, the men and women of the US Armed Forces. The game will be televised locally on WFXT Fox 25 in Boston.
