Earlier in the game the Pats took an intentional safety to avoid from punting from their own end zone – a move that coach Bill Belichick would emulate with success against Denver 25 years later.

Ben Coates caught a pair of TDs from Drew Bledsoe and Chris Slade put the game away with a 27-yard interception return for a score. Curtis Martin ran 27 times for 148 yards.Â
