The dog days of summer are about to take on new meaning, as the opening day of New England Patriots training camp this year will feature wagging tails, hopeful eyes, and the chance to make a lifelong connection.
The Kraft family and Patriots Foundation, in partnership with animal rescues across the region, are excited to host a dog adoption event on Wednesday, July 23.
"Dana and I know firsthand the joy and unconditional love a dog can bring into your life, just ask our beloved Heisman," said Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft.
"That's why we're proud to kick off training camp on July 23 with a cause close to our hearts: dog adoption. Every dog deserves a loving home, and we hope Patriots fans attending the opening day of training camp this year will open their hearts and their homes to a new Pawtriots pet."
The Krafts and Patriots Foundation hosted their first dog adoption event at Patriot Place in May, with Robert Kraft, Dr. Dana Kraft, and their beloved dog Heisman on site to help with the initiative.
With thousands of fans expected at training camp, they hope to make an even bigger impact for the cause.
Three local animal shelters will be featured at training camp, including the Potter League for Animals, the Berkshire Humane Society, and the Animal Rescue League of Boston where Dr. Kraft proudly serves on the board of directors.
The rescues will be on site with dogs of all ages, breeds, and sizes for fans to meet and adopt.
Whether fans are scouting wide retrievers or a defensive bark, the animals will be sure to fetch some hearts. The canines will make quite the entrance, too, as Patriots players walk them onto the practice field to the cheers of New England fans.
The adoption event will be held from 9 a.m. when camp opens to the public until 1 p.m. Those interested in adopting (who are over the age of 18) will need to fill out and sign an adoption contract, and it's important to note that any prospective adopters who live out of state may be unable to complete the same-day adoptions based on their state of residence requirements.
With all the anticipation and promise this season of Patriots football holds, a new companion to watch games would make it even more exciting.
