Not a whole lot in the way of Patriots news today.
But this should interest fans. Both of the Boston newspapers caught up with Matt Casselthis week at the Super Bowl site in Tampa, Florida.
He was asked about his impending free agent status and possible franchise tagging by the Patriots.
"At this point, it's just kind of a waiting game," Cassel said. "There haven't been any talks.
"I'm just enjoying my time off right now and waiting to hear what happens," he continued. “Whatever happens, I’m going to make the best of it.”
There's also a *Boston Herald *piece about new senior football advisor Floyd Reese. The paper sought the opinion of respected NFL talent evaluator Gil Brandton New England's hiring of Reese this week.
“I think he’s got a big job,” Brandt said of Reese. "They have some players who are getting older. They did replenish the defense a bit with (Jerod) Mayo, so they have some decisions there, and they have to decide what they're going to do with [Cassel]. That's a big decision going forward."
And there's an interesting story on Examiner.com about some unheralded, but unforgettable former Patriots.
