Jaguars defensive trio back at practice

Jaguars linebacker Mike Peterson and defensive ends Reggie Hayward and Paul Spicer returned to practice and were expected to play Jan. 7 at New England.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Jan. 5, 2006) -- Jaguars linebacker Mike Peterson and defensive ends Reggie Hayward and Paul Spicer returned to practice and were expected to play Jan. 7 at New England.

The three defensive starters missed practice the previous two days and were listed as questionable for the AFC wild-card game.

Peterson sprained his right wrist Jan. 1 against Tennessee and has been in a cast since. Asked what would happen if coach Jack Del Rio tried to hold him out against the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Patriots, Peterson said, "You'll probably see a fight on the sideline or something."

Hayward (hamstring) and Spicer (broken left hand) didn't play against the Titans in hopes of getting ready for the postseason.

Peterson had 190 tackles, six sacks and three interceptions this season. Hayward had a team-high 8½ sacks, one more than Spicer.
