Logan Mankins Press Conference Transcript

New England Patriots offensive lineman Logan Mankins addresses the media during his press conference at the team hotel in Indianapolis, IN on Sunday, January 29, 2012.

(on the Giants pass rush)
"The thing that makes them unique is they have four guys out there at all times that can rush the passer. They're really good. Their tackles are good. At times they put four defensive ends at one time. They have the personnel to really get after you."

(on whether it is the speed of the Giants' pass rush that makes them effective)
"Their speed, and they know how to rush the passer. They are good with their moves and they know what they're doing. They are very athletic. They can do a lot of different things."

(on the Giants defense being different than the Giants defense in 2007)
"They added a guy - Jason Pierre Paul. He's pretty good. He had a heck of a year, and he does a lot of things that other players in the league can't do. He makes it really tough."

(on this year's Super Bowl experience)
"It's good to get here. It'll be good to get everything settled in and get the week started. Let the circus begin tonight, but it's good to be here and get things going."

(on where the Patriots' game plan is now)
"We put in quite a bit (before we left New England). I don't know if the coaches are going to add anymore or take some away. I don't know what their plan is right now. We have some things in. I'm sure we'll keep adding or subtracting."

(on whether there is extra tension between the Giants' defensive line and the Patriots' offensive line)
"I don't know. We don't like any defensive line, so they are on the list. I don't think there's any more than any other team."

(on Justin Tuck calling the Patriots' offensive line dirty)
"That's alright. We don't mind being called dirty or cheap or any of that stuff. That's a compliment to us."

(on whether Tom Brady has improved as a player since he has been a Patriot)
"He was pretty good when I got in the league. He had already won three Super Bowls and done a lot of great things. Seeing Tom (Brady) since I've been here, he's a great leader. He leads by example. He's vocal when he needs to be. He does everything that you would want from a football player and would really want in your quarterback. That's what Tom Brady is."

(on whether Tom Brady is tough)
"He's tough. Have you seen some of the shots he's taken? He always gets back up. Some guys might not get up from some of the shots that he's had to take over his career. He always gets back up. He's a very tough guy."

(on whether they have learned things from the last time they faced the Giants)
"We look at everything. We try to learn from everything that has happened in the past, whether it's our team or them against another team. We leave no stone unturned. We look for everything that will help us."

(on whether he is surprised by how tough Tom Brady is)
"Yeah, he dresses a lot nicer than I do. Tom is as tough as they get. He plays hurt. He's done a lot of things that tough guys do."

(on whether there is a sense of déjà vu being back at the Super Bowl)
"It's an exciting time. It feels new again. I'm just happy to be here right now and get settled in and get the week started."

(on Super Bowl week not being like Groundhog Day)
"No. I would be very happy if this became like Groundhog Day."

(on Bill Belichick)
"He's a very good coach. He's a very demanding coach. He wants things done his way - the right way. That's all you can ask of your coach. He's the same every day. He's not going to be one way one day and be somebody else the next day. That's what we want. We want him to be consistent in how he's demanding of us and how he coaches."

(on Bill Belichick's sense of humor)
"He has a great sense of humor. He's very funny, and you never know when it's going to happen. He has good jokes."

(on Bill Belichikck's ability to utilize undrafted players effectively)
"He looks for people who can fit his program. He looks for guys who work hard. For those guys to make the team and stay in the NFL and have to work harder, those are the kind of guys he finds."

(on whether it will be strange to practice in the Colts' practice facility)
"It will be. Usually when we walk into the Colts' stadium or anything, we're getting booed. It'll be quiet over there. I'm sure they aren't too excited about us using their facility. We're happy that we're here getting to use it, so that's great."

(on offensive linemen and Tom Brady yelling at each other)
"If he yells, that means something bad went wrong with one of us. We understand why he's yelling. We would yell at ourselves if we could, but it's hard to yell at yourself. It's one of those things where everyone wants everything done right and sometimes that doesn't happen. Everyone is out there competing. You want the guy next to you doing his job."

(on how the Patriots' running game has evolved)
"We want to stay balanced as much as possible, but some games that doesn't happen. I wish we ran the ball for 200 yards every game, but that's not going to happen. We want to run the ball. We have good backs. We have pretty good blockers."

(on whether it's fun some weeks game planning on how the team is going to run the ball)
"Some weeks I'm very excited about the running game, and we don't use it that often. Some weeks we use it a lot. You just never know what's going to happen."

(on Dante Scarnecchia)
"He makes a big difference with his work ethic. Dante is a very hard worker. It seems like he is there 24 hours a day. I'm sure he gets home a little bit, but I don't think he's home very long. The way he pushes us and demands us to work hard is the best thing for us. We're always in good shape. We always know what to do. If something comes up in the game where we don't know what to do, he always has the answer for us when we get to the sideline."

(on what he thinks the score will be on Sunday)
"I don't know. We'll see on Sunday. I can't see in the future."

(on the Giants' defense being different now than they were in November)
"I don't know how much difference there is. They are playing very well. They are getting after the quarterback and causing turnovers. They are not giving up too many points. They are playing very well and they've been playing really good for a good stretch."

(on the Giants utilizing four defensive ends)
"We have to be aware that they're all in there for the speed. Not many teams can put four guys in there at one time with that kind of speed. The line has to know what's coming and what they can do with those four guys, and just be up to the speed of the game that they're going to bring in there."

(on still being excited about being in the Super Bowl)
"There still is an excitement. I kind of wish we could just play the game tomorrow instead of being here for an entire week and going through everything. That's just part of this experience. You have to get through it and make sure you stay focused on the task at hand. I wish the game was sooner than Sunday."
(on playing for Bill Belichick) "It's been great playing for him. He's a hard worker. He demands us to work hard. He demands us to do our job. He puts us in a position to be successful. He's a very good coach. He's been a good coach for a long time now. I don't think there's another coach I'd really want to play for."

(on Brian Waters)
"Brian's been great. I don't think there's anything bad you can say about Brian. He's been a true professional. He's a great teammate. He's done everything we've asked of him. He's played very well and we were very lucky to get him on our team."

(on the consistency of the Patriots)
"I think the model is, it has worked. Once it has worked it's easy for guys to keep buying into it and keeping that straight line of what we need to do and staying focused. If it works don't break it."

(on the Patriots' model)
"Do your job, that's the main thing. Do your job and everything will take care of itself."

(on Rob Gronkowski's injury)
"I didn't even know he was hurt to tell you the truth."

(on the Patriots utilizing a two-tight end set)
"Whatever is going to help us win is what we'll do. I've always said, 'If we can run the ball in the game, we're going to run the ball. If we can throw the ball, we're going to do that.' Whatever is working for us is what we do. That's a good way to go into it."

(on what he remembers from the last time the Patriots were in the Super Bowl)
"I remember a whole lot. I remember we lost and that still burns some of us. We can learn a lot from that. The main thing from this game is to win. Whatever it takes is what we have to do."

(on Vince Wilfork)
"He's a big beast. There aren't many guys like Vince in the league. I know practicing against him is hard, but I'd much rather practice against him than play against him."

(on what makes Vince Wilfork so good)
"Vince is a highly competitive guy. He's strong, very strong. He's tough and for someone his size he has very good endurance. He can keep going. It's not two plays and he's out of the game, he stays out there and he's still going."

(on Nick McDonald)
"Nick, when he was in there, did a great job. He stepped up those two weeks and did a fine job for us. He made a majority of the calls. We couldn't have asked anything more from him."

(on whether he watched the last Super Bowl the Patriots were in)
"I have watched it. It wasn't a pretty picture, but sometimes you have to go back and see what went wrong, and what you could have done better to help you move on and be a better player."

(on whether their Super Bowl loss to the Giants will help them in this game)
"I don't know if it will help in this game; it might. I don't know if it will. Hopefully it helps."

(on whether he feels the Patriots are the underdog)
"I don't know if we're the underdog or they are. If we play good we have a good chance to win. If we play bad and they play good, they have a great chance. One of us has to win and one of us has to lose."

(on Tom Brady being more confident this week)
"Tom is a good player. He believes in his abilities. He's always pretty confident in what we can do."
