Matt Cassel Post-Game Press Conference Transcript

Quarterback Matt Cassel addresses the media after the Patriots - Falcons preseason game at the Georgia Dome.

Q: How did you play tonight?

MC: I need to play a lot better. I think I left a lot of throws out there. The team played a good game tonight. It's one of those things where I'd love to come out… there were plays here and there but it was a little too inconsistent. I need to play better.

Q: How do you feel about the offense overall?

MC: I think we ran the ball at times, we threw the ball at times, but, like I said, there was too much inconsistency. Not necessarily on [the offense's] part but on my part. I want to get drives going early and get going like that.

Q: On the three and outs…

MC: It's frustrating. You want to go in there and you want to put together drives. You want to move the ball every time you get in there. Unfortunately we didn't do that. We had a few three and outs. That's something you don't want to do, but it happens from time to time.

Q: Is it tough when the personnel is changing as much as it was?

MC: It doesn't affect me for the most part. I still have to go through the same reads. I still have to make my decisions and throw the ball. In preseason there are going to be a lot of personnel changes. There are going to be a lot of different people in there…

Q: On the offense mounting comebacks…

MC: We kept fighting back. There was definitely no give up. We definitely came out to win. Everybody gave 100 percent effort. Like I said, if it weren't for a few throws here and there… Like I said there were a few moments… I put a lot of it on myself today.

Q: [Inaudible]

MC: You come here to win. That's the whole thing. What it comes down to is winning ball games and we weren't able to accomplish that tonight. Like I said, I take a lot of responsibility for that…

Q: On scrambling more…

MC: It's one of those things that if you're looking downfield and going through your reads and someone's not open, it breaks down and you're more prone to run… I think that has a lot to do with it.

Q: Is there a lot of communication with Tom [Brady] on the sideline?

MC: There is. He's great. He is always asking "What did you see? Why did you do that?", questions just to see if I'm doing the right thing. He's definitely a big support over there.

Q: Was the inconsistency more missing throws or…

MC: Just overall I need to play better. I need to be sharper and put the ball on the money more. We had a lot of guys open and I would like to think I could get them the ball.

Q: What are your impressions of Garett Mills?

MC: I think Garrett Mills is great for the team. He's a guy that can do a lot of things. He's versatile. He's big. He can block. Hopefully he's going to help us a lot during the season. This is the first preseason game. We have a long way tot go before we get into the regular season, but now that he's healthy he's just getting better.

Q: How about Laurence Maroney?

MC: He brings a certain explosiveness. He brings a certain intensity and he does the job.
