Patriots Postgame Quotes - 8/22/2013

New England Patriots players comment on their preseason game against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field on Thursday, August 22, 2013.

**

PATRIOTS T NATE SOLDER **On the Lions' defensive players: "They're great players. They're really good players. I give them all the credit in the world. We need to be competitive and play good against those sort of players."

On the lesson learned from this game: "Well, you got to take something away from it because it's about improvement at this point. We got to get better and we know that."

On if the Lions defensive line showed them anything different: "I don't think it was a matter of that. I think I had some breakdowns in some of my technique. I kind of saw what they could do and I knew they were good pass rushers and I would have liked to perform better."

PATRIOTS WR KENBRELL THOMPKINS
**

On if he had a productive game despite the team's loss:**
"I don't want to talk about individual performances right now. It was a disappointing loss for the team."

On the team's inability to get into a rhythm and making mistakes: "That was a team performance. We can't point fingers at one person, anything like that. We just got to watch the film and correct the mistakes that we made."

On how important it is to listen to the captains and coaches and move forward from this game: "The veterans of the team – that's who we listen to. What they say goes for the rookies and everything like that. So, whatever they tell us to do, as far as correcting the mistakes that we made, that's the only thing we can do is correct it."

PATRIOTS DL TOMMY KELLY
On it being a tough night for the team: "Yeah, you win some, you lose some, but you learn a lot."

On if the Lions were a tougher opponent than previous opponents in preseason: "No, they were pretty much how we expected them. Coming out, after what happened to them last week in Cleveland, we knew as a team they were going to come out ready to play. I guess we just didn't match it."

On why the team did not match the Lions' readiness to play: "I don't know. Coaches know. I'm going to let them decide that. I'm not going to try to do none of that. Coaches are going to look at the film and they will let you know. We'll know exactly what happened tomorrow. It's a learning experience. Everything doesn't have to be perfect in the preseason. You learn from it and just don't make the same mistakes in that game."
