The Patriots announced the signing of linebacker Eric Alexander from their practice squad. He is active for today's game and is wearing number 49. To make room for Alexander on the 53-man roster, New England released center/guard Gene Mruczkowski. Alexander is in his second NFL season and played in three games for the Patriots in 2004. He had been a member of the team's practice squad for the first four weeks of the 2005 season.
