According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Patriots are set to bring Josh McDaniels back to New England.

McDaniels – who is currently under contract as the Rams offensive coordinator – is expected to re-join Bill Belichick's coaching staff as some sort of offensive assistant/consultant for the playoffs before taking over the offensive coordinator job in 2012 that's being vacated with Bill O'Brien taking the job as head coach at Penn State.

McDaniels had been in first season in St. Louis after a year-plus as the head coach in Denver. He left for the Broncos in 2009 after a very successful stint as the Patriots offensive coordinator, a staff he originally joined in 2001.

O'Brien was officially announced as Penn State's head coach on Saturday, but will continue to work his job as New England's offensive coordinator and play caller through the conclusion of the postseason.
