The New England Patriots will begin their 2024 season when they host the Carolina Panthers in the preseason opener. It marks the 13th preseason meeting between the two teams and the first since a 20-10 Patriots win at Gillette Stadium in Week 2 of the 2022 preseason. The Patriots and Panthers last met in the regular season in 2021 when New England pulled out a 24-6 victory at Carolina on Nov. 7, 2021.
SERIES HISTORY
The New England Patriots and the Carolina Panthers will meet in the preseason for the 13th time overall and for the first time since the 2022 season. This week's game will mark the third straight preseason meeting at Gillette Stadium with games in 2019 and 2022. The Patriots beat Carolina, 10-3, on Aug. 22, 2019 and 20-10 on Aug. 19, 2022.
The teams last met in the regular season in 2021 with the Patriots taking a 24-6 victory at Carolina on Nov. 7, 2021. Since 2000, the Patriots have a winning record against every NFL team except Carolina at 3-3, Green Bay at 3-3 and Seattle at 2-3.
New England leads the preseason matchups with a 9-3 advantage in the 12 preseason games while Carolina holds a 4-3 edge in the regular season.
The Patriots and Panthers met in Super Bowl XXXVIII on Feb. 2, 2004. The Patriots-Panthers Super Bowl is widely believed to be among the most entertaining Super Bowls ever played, as the Panthers took a fourth-quar- ter lead only to see the Patriots come up with a game-winning field goal to clinch the see-saw battle in the final seconds.

SHARP AT GILLETTE
The Patriots not only have the second-best home record at their home stadium in the NFL since 1970, but the club also owns three 20-plus home win streaks in Gillette Stadium history: a 20-game regular season win streak from 2008-11 and two 21-game win streaks that includes the playoffs.
