The New England Patriots will begin their 2025 season when they host the Washington Commanders in the preseason following almost three weeks of training camp and one day of joints practice sessions with the Commanders. It will mark the 25th preseason meeting between the two teams and will tie with Philadelphia for the second-most preseason meetings, behind the 31 meetings between the New York Giants. The Patriots closed the 2024 preseason with a 20-10 loss at Washington on Aug. 25, 2024.

The Patriots and the Commanders will meet for the 25th time in the preseason, and will be tied with Philadelphia for the second-most frequent preseason contests, behind the 31 meetings between the Patriots and Giants.

SERIES HISTORY

The New England Patriots and the Washington Commanders will meet for the 25th time in the preseason and for the second straight preseason, with New England holding a 15-9 advantage in the previous 24 contests. The only other teams the Patriots have played more in the preseason are the New York Giants with 31 and the Philadelphia Eagles with 25 preseason meetings.

The Patriots' 15 preseason victories over Washington are their highest total over any preseason opponent, with the Patriots' 14 victories over Philadelphia second.

The Patriots and Commanders closed out the 2024 preseason last year in Washington with the Commanders taking a 20-10 victory on Aug. 25. This week's game will be Washington's fourth visit to Gillette Stadium for a preseason game.

New England and Washington have met in the regular season 12 times with Washington holding a 7-5 advantage. The Commanders beat the Patriots, 20-17, in the last regular season meeting on Nov. 5, 2023 at Gillette Stadium.

QUICK HIT

New England's victory over Washington in 2011 was their first win in Washington, the only NFL city that the Patriots had never won on the road. The Patriots are now 2-2 in the nation's capital.

BROADCAST INFORMATION

TELEVISION: This week's game will be broadcast by the Patriots Preseason Television Network and can be seen in every New England state. The preseason network's flagship station is WBZ-TV CBS in Boston. Devin and Jason McCourty will headline the broadcast booth for both of the locally produced Patriots preseason games, joining veteran color analyst and former Patriots quarterback Scott Zolak. Former Patriots quarterback Brian Hoyer will provide analysis from the sidelines for the Washington game. In addition, senior editor Paul Perillo will provide in-game analysis in the Bobs Discount Furniture Studios. WBZ sports director Steve Burton will continue to provide sideline analysis, which will include interviews with Patriots coaches during the game.

LOCAL RADIO: 98.5 The Sports Hub is the flagship station for the Patriots Radio Network. A complete listing of the network's 33 stations can be found here. Play-by-play broadcaster Bob Socci will call the action along with NBC Sports Boston's Phil Perry, who will provide color analysis. The games are produced by Marc Cappello.
